Vickong Dental's Healthy Love Warms Thousands Hong Kong Charity Event

From 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM on April 28, the heartwarming initiative "Vickong Dental's Healthy Love Warms Thousands" will take place in Hong Kong's Tai Po District. Vickong Dental has partnered with Hong Kong social workers to form eight teams for the first phase of this activity, with each team visiting 24 families living in inadequate housing. The charity event prepared a gift package for each household, filled with thoughtful items including HK$100 supermarket vouchers, fresh roasted meats, daily cleaning supplies, and dental care products like toothpaste and toothbrushes. With these warm supplies and sincere care, Vickong Dental and Hong Kong social workers brought comfort to struggling families, listened to their needs, and kindled hope in their lives with acts of kindness.

Among them, the first social worker team consisted of Vickong Dental’s Senior Zheng, Brother Billy, Kelly, and Mei Qi, who visited three families.

First Family: Single-parent household living in a cramped subdivided flat

Family members: A mother raising four children alone (the eldest son, 18, preparing for exams; the second daughter, 17; the third daughter, 16, working part-time and seeking schooling; and the youngest son, 14, in junior high).

The eldest son shared his aspiration to become a police officer and has been diligently preparing for it, displaying optimism and clear thinking. As he filled out his personal profile, he engaged in detailed conversations with us. The two older sisters were shy and mentioned they were working part-time while trying to learn Cantonese, as they had yet to find a school.

Vickong Dental’s Senior Zheng shared his university teaching experience with the siblings, encouraging them that "hard work leads to success." Brother Billy drew from his own sons' exam experiences to offer study tips and wished the eldest son success in his exams.

Second Family: Single-parent household with modest but tidy living conditions

Family members: A mother, her son, and daughter, along with the son’s high school classmate, sharing the rental.

The son, a Form 5 student, excels in history and has independent thoughts and insights. He recently returned from a five-night, six-day study tour in Guizhou, proudly showing us local tea specialties and confidently brewing tea while chatting with us. He has also been on a study trip to Malaysia and will embark on another to Xinjiang in July. The mother listened attentively to her son’s stories, beaming with pride.

Brother Billy advised the son to follow news from diverse media, study history, and stay updated with the times to keep progressing. Senior Zheng demonstrated Gongfu tea brewing techniques and encouraged the son to focus on his studies, suggesting he explore trends in the internet and AI. If interested in medicine, he could consider dentistry as a potential career path to broaden his future opportunities.

Third Family: Single-parent household

Family members: A mother raising three young daughters alone.

The eldest daughter was well-behaved and sweet, the second lively and active, and the youngest, just over a year old, was very friendly. The children’s doodles adorned the space next to the TV, and they attended free training programs during the day. The mother wore full dentures, having suffered from severe tooth decay at a young age, while the two older daughters also had significant dental issues. Vickong Dental’s Senior Zheng and Mei Qi guided the girls on proper daily brushing techniques. Despite hardships, the mother remained optimistic and even offered chrysanthemum tea to us visitors twice during the visit, showing great warmth.

As we left, the three children asked if we would stay for dinner. Even after we descended the stairs, they waved goodbye from the window.

Hong Kong social worker Kelly demonstrated professional expertise, understanding each family’s situation and personalities. She reminded us to avoid negative topics and wholeheartedly supported the families, encouraging them to stay motivated and self-reliant rather than dependent on aid, fostering their ability to build a better life step by step.

Through this charity event, Vickong Dental actively engaged in Hong Kong’s public welfare efforts, with clear roles and responsibilities for all participants. The experience was deeply meaningful—we treated every interviewee as a friend, listening and encouraging them with respect and equality. Moving forward, we will provide regular follow-up care and support, making this a truly impactful charitable initiative.
